Hunt for the Green Jacket
It's Sunday. The last day of the Masters. I've watched golf since I was a little girl. At first it was to make fun of how boring it was while my step-dad was watching it, but then I became intrigued. I remember watching Tiger win his first Masters in '97 and crying along with him while he hugged his dad. Then in '98 when Mark O'Meara won, I remember being so happy that Tiger, his close friend, got to put the jacket on him. I don't remember '99 - '00, a girl gets distracted you know. Tiger won again in '01 and '02, and during that time I got bit hard by the golf bug. Glen and I started playing. A lot. I got some sweet irons and Annika's 2 ball putter and we went out playing at least once a week. I realized that I loved golf. Playing it, watching it, talking about it. Then during 2004 Masters we watched as Phil Mickelson won his very first major. I don't like Phil very much, but I was filled with happiness for him as he jumped (OK, it was more like he was just standing on his tip-toes.) for joy when he sunk his final putt. This year, I welled up when Jack Nicklaus announced it would be his last Masters appearance. Now that it's starting to be sunny and warm once more, I am again feeling the pull of the links. The Masters helps with that too. I can't help but to get excited about playing more while I'm watching Tiger climb to the top of the board, tying the 7 consecutive birdie streak mark no less, while Chris DiMarco sank from first to second. The last 18 holes will be played today and we'll have our winner. I'm rooting for Tiger because when he's on top of his game he is unstoppable and amazing to watch.
Update: Tiger did win! Yay! It certainly was a nail biter though. Sudden death with DiMarco after a tie at the finish, but Tiger pulled through. Phew. Glen and I were standing and yelling through the last 4 holes. Then we went to hit balls with all of our adrenaline pumping. Good times!
