Roof and Woof

We've been invaded! Monday the roofers showed up to start tearing off our old roof and began putting on a new one. Talk about having a headache. Three straight days of nonstop constant pounding. The blood behind my eyes started pounding right along with it. And our roofers were such hard workers! They showed up bright and early at 6:45 to start and didn't leave until 7:30 or later each night. Crazy. On one hand I was glad they were working so long since that meant they'd be done sooner. But on the other hand the banging was so loud I was willing them to leave the whole time I was home. And poor CoCo! She flinched with each bang and shook in between. But now it's mostly finished and it looks great. We went from a falling apart cedar shake roof to a metal "faux cedar" roof. I loved how the cedar looks, but metal is so much more practical.

So I pulled up to my house yesterday after work and see this flash of white fly by me. I get out of my car to look more closely and see it's a tiny dog! Running around in the street! With no collar! Now you have to picture me, fierce protector of all animals, charging into the street after it. I threw caution to the wind. I figured I could survive a car hitting me, but this poor puppy couldn't. I thought I could, with my Snow White disposition, cull her easily. Nope. This doggie would have none of that. Every time I got within two feet of her, she took off. I'm pretty sure she thought we were playing. I'm running all around my neighborhood with no shoes (it's hard to chase a dog in heels) and people are stopping. Not stopping to help me, but to laugh at me. I tried explaining while running that she wasn't my dog and I was just doing a good deed, but that didn't stop their laughter. People would watch for a while, then leave and yell, "Good luck!" Finally I decide she might chase me. It worked. I got her into the house, plied her with treats and water, then she decided she loved me! She wouldn't leave my side. She crawled in my lap, fell asleep, and my heart melted. CoCo on the other hand was supremely jealous of her. If little dog layed on me, CoCo layed on more of me. If I petted little dog, CoCo nudged my other hand until I petted her. It was crazy. I decided that it must be my neighbor's dog since there was a noticable dearth of barking from next door. So, I went over and left them a note saying I was pretty sure I had their dog. Anyway, long story short (too late, right?), the neighbor came and got her after a few hours. My heart was broken.
