I would have written it. Harsh, perhaps. I blame moving stress. So far, it's been nice! The scenery can't be beat and they have the same old stuff you find anywhere else. Suburbia is the same everywhere you go, right? Glen got a promotion to move up here with MSFT, so we left my beautiful, warm, palm-tree filled state. I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. One thing I do miss are my neighbors and friends. You can't always find people like that; I'm not sure we'll find anyone as cool. We will try though!

Annika has started at preschool! It's called Evergreen Academy, and she's really loving it so far! I've been pleased with the teachers and the school itself, so hopefully it will be a good fit. I worry about her fitting in. I know she can push her love on people - sometimes when they don't want it! She loves to hug and kiss everyone, even people she doesn't know. I guess that's a bit off-putting to some. Weirdos. Who doesn't love to be hugged and kissed? I also worry about her birthday! We are moving into our new house next week, and then her birthday is rapidly approaching. Will she have kids at her party?! These are the things I lose sleep over at night people. I just want my baby to have friends!

Well, I've shared enough for at least 2 years. I'll be back in 2011.

Park Pictures

I've decided that I'm not much of a blogger, but I do love to post pictures! Has a year gone by already?

Well. Hi. I'm moderately embarrassed that I've let more than a year go by without so much as a hello to all of you! So many things have happened since we've last talked. Glen and I took a trip to San Diego in June of last year, yada yada yada, now we have a baby! Hee! Instead of boring everyone with words, let's jump to the good stuff - pictures! This first picture is me and Glen in San Diego unaware that I have a zygote in my tummy!

Then, a few months later, out pops my stomach! I'm going in to the hospital to get some P-gel applied before the induction the next day.

That's the cliffhanger picture! I couldn't really start reading it that day because we had so many plans already. I know, shame on me, I should have planned around Harry Potter! But, on Sunday I completely ignored Glen and CoCo so I could read it without interruption. I have to say it was great and captivating, just like it's predecessors, but the ending had no real resolution for me. Frankly, it just left me mad! It was like the end of the Fellowship of the Ring! At least then I had The Two Towers right there next to me so I could read it directly afterwards. Valla, my kitten, who is an outdoor stray (she won't stay inside, believe me we've tried...more on this phenomenon later) that we've adopted since we moved in, jumped up on the table where I feed her this week and had a huge (5" x 5", at least) clump of hair hanging off of her. Her skin was showing underneath of it. Of course, being the greatest person in a crisis, I immediately start sobbing uncontrollably and scoop her into my arms while calling the vet. The vet tells me that they are closing in 5 minutes, and to call the emergency clinic. So, I hang up and call them. They understand me, miraculously since I'm still blubbering like an idiot, and tell me to bring her in right away. I shove her in a carrier and drive off, the whole while muttering soothing things that are supposed to help her, but really they are for my benefit. The doctor takes her in right away and tells us to wait outside. EEEK!! They made me wait outside while my baby was in an emergency clinic?!?! I could barely keep my hands from wringing themselves to bits. After a while they call me back in to say she's fine. He told us it looks like one of the mats in her fur (she'd had a bunch and my regular vet was shaving her in the summer) got caught on something and she pulled away really quickly, essentially waxing the fur off of herself. OUCH! Poor baby. So, the doctor took it upon himself to shave the some of her to get rid of the mats and prevent other mats. He warned us that she might look funny.

She's shaved like that all the way around; Under her tummy and on the other side. She looks like she has a mohawk. I hope the other kitties aren't making too much fun of her. Otherwise the doctor said she's healthy AND the sweetest kitty he's ever dealt with! Awww! My pussycat! He let us go, after the $115 bill, with a warning to keep her inside for a few days so her new skin doesn't sunburn. So, on the way home we stop and get a disposable litter box and put it in our empty back bedroom. We stick her in there once bedtime rolls around and she seems pretty content. I opened the window for her so she could get some fresh air. Well. Around 4 AM Glen and I hear some rattling, but don't really think much of it. CoCo, the best watchdog, hadn't stirred so we went back to sleep. When morning finally came, Glen took CoCo outside and yelled to me, "Your cat is outside!" I flew into her room and sure enough she was gone. She had shoved the window open more (With her tiny 7 pound body!) and scratched open an escape hole. I had to put sunscreen on her for the rest of the week so she didn't get sunburned. She truly hates being inside, but darnit, she's cute!

Wedding in Atlantic City

Glen and I went to his cousin's wedding this past weekend. I am really tired though. I feel like I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in a long while. Glen was gone for a few days on business in the beginning of the week and I don't sleep very well without him. Partly because I miss him and partly because I'm always sure a homicidal maniac is going to break in and kill me and CoCo.

The weekend before last I had a very successful jewelry party at my house. I was afraid no one would like anything. But they did! And they bought stuff! I sold 23 pieces! So, needless to say, I was a busy little beading maniac the last two weeks filling all of the orders.

Glen is currently setting up my website site so I can be global! I'll let you know what the name is as soon as it's done.

Roof and Woof

We've been invaded! Monday the roofers showed up to start tearing off our old roof and began putting on a new one. Talk about having a headache. Three straight days of nonstop constant pounding. The blood behind my eyes started pounding right along with it. And our roofers were such hard workers! They showed up bright and early at 6:45 to start and didn't leave until 7:30 or later each night. Crazy. On one hand I was glad they were working so long since that meant they'd be done sooner. But on the other hand the banging was so loud I was willing them to leave the whole time I was home. And poor CoCo! She flinched with each bang and shook in between. But now it's mostly finished and it looks great. We went from a falling apart cedar shake roof to a metal "faux cedar" roof. I loved how the cedar looks, but metal is so much more practical.

So I pulled up to my house yesterday after work and see this flash of white fly by me. I get out of my car to look more closely and see it's a tiny dog! Running around in the street! With no collar! Now you have to picture me, fierce protector of all animals, charging into the street after it. I threw caution to the wind. I figured I could survive a car hitting me, but this poor puppy couldn't. I thought I could, with my Snow White disposition, cull her easily. Nope. This doggie would have none of that. Every time I got within two feet of her, she took off. I'm pretty sure she thought we were playing. I'm running all around my neighborhood with no shoes (it's hard to chase a dog in heels) and people are stopping. Not stopping to help me, but to laugh at me. I tried explaining while running that she wasn't my dog and I was just doing a good deed, but that didn't stop their laughter. People would watch for a while, then leave and yell, "Good luck!" Finally I decide she might chase me. It worked. I got her into the house, plied her with treats and water, then she decided she loved me! She wouldn't leave my side. She crawled in my lap, fell asleep, and my heart melted. CoCo on the other hand was supremely jealous of her. If little dog layed on me, CoCo layed on more of me. If I petted little dog, CoCo nudged my other hand until I petted her. It was crazy. I decided that it must be my neighbor's dog since there was a noticable dearth of barking from next door. So, I went over and left them a note saying I was pretty sure I had their dog. Anyway, long story short (too late, right?), the neighbor came and got her after a few hours. My heart was broken.
A picture of my guest for your enjoyment.

Funny Picture

As I was going through some old emails to weed out the memory hoggers, I stumbled upon this picture of me from summer camp last year. The last day of the Masters. I've watched golf since I was a little girl. At first it was to make fun of how boring it was while my step-dad was watching it, but then I became intrigued. I remember watching Tiger win his first Masters in '97 and crying along with him while he hugged his dad. Then in '98 when Mark O'Meara won, I remember being so happy that Tiger, his close friend, got to put the jacket on him. I don't remember '99 - '00, a girl gets distracted you know. Tiger won again in '01 and '02, and during that time I got bit hard by the golf bug. Glen and I started playing. A lot. I got some sweet irons and Annika's 2 ball putter and we went out playing at least once a week. I realized that I loved golf. Playing it, watching it, talking about it. Then during 2004 Masters we watched as Phil Mickelson won his very first major. I don't like Phil very much, but I was filled with happiness for him as he jumped (OK, it was more like he was just standing on his tip-toes.) for joy when he sunk his final putt. This year, I welled up when Jack Nicklaus announced it would be his last Masters appearance. Now that it's starting to be sunny and warm once more, I am again feeling the pull of the links. The Masters helps with that too. I can't help but to get excited about playing more while I'm watching Tiger climb to the top of the board, tying the 7 consecutive birdie streak mark no less, while Chris DiMarco sank from first to second. The last 18 holes will be played today and we'll have our winner. I'm rooting for Tiger because when he's on top of his game he is unstoppable and amazing to watch.
Update: Tiger did win! Yay! It certainly was a nail biter though. Sudden death with DiMarco after a tie at the finish, but Tiger pulled through. Phew. Glen and I were standing and yelling through the last 4 holes. Then we went to hit balls with all of our adrenaline pumping. Good times!

Royal Wedding

I think it's really sad that at the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla people had signs up that read, "Long live the Queen, Diana Forever: King Charles, Queen Camilla — Never!" I feel sorry for Camilla. She and Charles have been together for decades. Yes, I know she was his mistress, but Diana had affairs as well. Sometimes you don't get to be with who you are supposed to be with the first time around, so when you get the chance to fix that, I say take it.
(Can you tell I'm speaking from a wee tiny bit of experience here. :) )

See a picture of those two here.

Long time, no blog.

I haven't written anything for a good long time. It's not that fun and exciting things aren't happening to me everyday, I'm just lazy. And now I'm sick. Blech. Glen's sick too. He has the bronchitis. I thought I caught the same thing, but my doctor says no. He says I have some something else. I wish I could remember the name. It's sinusy and headachey and sore throaty. It's so yucky that I actually didn't go to work yesterday. I never miss work.

Anyway, here are some things that have been happening.

Clapotis: I still love it with all of my heart, but I just can't bear to finish it. I am at the halfway point and have been for about a month now, maybe longer. Again, I'm lazy and easily distracted.

Adagio Tea: Emy, I can't thank you enough for writing about this a few weeks ago. I'm pretty sure I was just a shell of a human being before the IngenuiTea-pot and fab loose teas came into my life. Even Glen likes it -- and he hates tea.

Books: I've just read the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. How have I not read these before? They were right up my fictional alley. They are laugh out loud funny, sexy, and full of "have to finish the book right now" kind of mystery. She's a clumsy, lucky bounty hunter who, if there is any justice in the world, I will play in the movie version. They're just great; if you haven't read them yet, get them. Although if you get books from the library, you'll have to wait a few days since I have them all checked out! And if you have read them, I am mad at you for not telling me about them!

Puppy: The sweetest furry thing in my life is no longer sick! Yay! She used to vomit (sexy, I know) every other day. Turns out she just had a nervous belly when we weren't around and she wouldn't eat. Then when we would return home, she'd be so excited she'd barf. Now we just make her eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Turns out, it's pretty hard to get a puppy to eat if they don't want to. We bribe her with cottage cheese (which she loves) and stir it into her food to trick her into eating everything.

Jewelry: So, I've been make jewelry obsessively. I make necklaces, chandelier earrings, dangling earrings, hoop earrings, anything I can think of. I even have a soldering iron. It's a disease to be sure. Glen has noticed since this obsession began that I appear to be hemorrhaging money. He's right. He also had the great idea that I try to actually make money from this hobby. Hmmm...that's sounds like a great idea. Now, I've had great money-making ideas before. Some people might insert the adjective "hare-brained" instead of great in the previous sentence, but I've always believed in myself. So. I am going to have a home jewelry party to show everything I've made to friends and family and hope they want me to make some for them. Besides the fact that everyone reading this must attend, what do you think?

And that's all I can think of for now. Phew. I'm tired. Time for a nap.

Magic Eye

I'm not sure if I've ever shared my love of magic eye puzzles with you. I love 'em. I could sit and do them all day. I'd actually love to design them -- with the whole art and science connection that seems right up my alley. I think what I might love most about them though is how easily I can see them. I mean it's 1 - 2 seconds and BAM there's the image. The best part is my poor hubby can't see them at all! Mwahh ahh ahh! (That's evil laughter if you can't tell.) Although it is frustrating to me when I try and get him to see them. Me, "Look harder! Cross your eyes!". Him, "I just can't see it, I give up!" Me, "Keep trying, quitter!". You can see how good I am at the gentle teaching approach.

Anyway, here's a great one. I walked all 1.7 miles though and I'm proud of myself. Not that I want to do it again mind you, but proud I am. What's that biblical quote, pride goeth before a fall? Oh my!

We're going to Tahoe again this weekend. (That means my tiny puppy is at my Dad's house. :( I miss her!) I'm not sure what to expect since I've never skied in 60 degree weather before. Hmm. How does one dress?

Also, we got new carpet installed today. I'm hoping it'll be less sheddy than it appears to be. My "vacuum" is a dustbuster that can't exactly tackle large jobs like that. And yes, that means I haven't vacuumed my bedroom since we moved in. No, that doesn't mean it hasn't been vacuumed before. That's why God invented housekeepers. :) The carpet we had removed was berber and this carpet is frieze (I dunno how to spell it, but it's pronounced free-SAY says the carpet guy), so that means the pile is different. It's almost shaggy looking; I love it.

Lastly, Glen's car is broken. He had to get a new engine. I don't know much about cars, but I'd say that's as broken as it comes. And expensive! YIKES! Since the car might not be done today, we might have to carpool to Tahoe. 5 people in a car for 5 hours is not my idea of fun. Especially when one of those people (ME!) gets carsick. Oh bother.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://bobbilynn.blogspot.com/2005/03/tahoe-carpets-and-cars-oh-my.html' title='Tahoe, carpets, and cars! I couldn't stay very long since my sweet husband came with me, and I didn't want to subject him the the "knitting biddies" for very long! Now that I'm home, I have an order placed on America's Yarn Store to satisfy my urge to splurge. :)

I also saw Emy at Stitches West with her beautiful newly knitted poncho. I may not look like the kind of girl that loves action movies, but I so am! We've been waiting for this movie to come out for so long! One of my favorites is in it, Jessica Biel (she used to be on 7th Heaven, one of the best shows on TV, until she turned all trampy). Anyway, it was really good. Afterward I was trying my best to get Glen to buy me a sword, but he didn't think that was such a good idea. :)

2 thumbs up

Halls be Decked!

Here are some pictures of our decorated house! I hate AOL, and I am tremendously happy that I will soon bid adieu to it, however there are a few downsides. I won't get to keep my screennames for AIM. :( Also, all of the saved mail that I currently am keeping (i.e. love notes from Glen from a loooooong time ago) will have to either be deleted, forwarded, or printed. I am not looking forward to any of those options. And, lastly (that I can think of for now), we have to change everything over that sends stuff to our addresses automatically. Like amazon and evite and banks and colleges. BOO! I am not looking forward to switching. I am really a nester at heart and I guess that shows in my lack of enthusiasm for purging everything.

GMAIL!

YAY! Not just a little worrier either, I worry about death and destruction.
10. I have OCD. For real. I’ve been diagnosed, but am not medicated.
11. I have family members who suffer from depression, but so far I am immune.
12. I love my husband more than I can articulate.
13. Reading is one of my passions. I used to live in Pennsylvania.
17. I can knit.
18. I love to play trivia games.
19. Singing karaoke is really fun for me.
20. I used to sing in a band.
21. I love to go to plays and musicals are my favorite.
22. Despite #21, Waiting for Godot was one of the worst experiences of my life.
23. Sometimes I get migraines.
24. I got a migraine the night I got engaged.
25. I am frightened of swimming in big puddles of water, like the ocean or a lake.
26. I hate jello and pudding and non-lumpy mashed potatoes.
33. I like to read blogs but feel very lurker-ish and kind of dirty unless I post something so the writer knows I’m out there reading their stuff.
34. I am a teacher, but I am not sure if that’s my passion.
35. I love vanilla twin-Popsicles and those red, white, and blue rocket pops.
36. Cheese fondue is one of my favorite things to eat.
37. I didn’t start liking wine until I was older, but now I think a glass with a nice dinner is a thing of joy.
38. I’ve gotten sick from drinking too much one time.
39. I wish I were still friends with my college roommate.
40. The Magic School Bus is one of my favorite cartoons. Scooby Doo too.
41. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is my favorite TV show of all time.
42. I currently have over 40 shows “season passed” on my TiVo.
43. One of my favorite memories is having James Doohan from Star Trek sing happy birthday to me at a convention. I even have a framed picture of the moment.
44. Yes, I am a closet trek-lover.
45. My very favorite memory is walking down the aisle with my husband.
46. I consider myself an athlete.
47. Joan of Arcadia always makes me cry.
48. I love the combination of chocolate and mint. Bendicks mint collection is now one of my favorite things. (Thanks Sue!)
49. Getting things in the mail makes my heart pound.
50. I consider myself a science nerd and always hope for the science category while watching Jeopardy.
51. My first crush was on Sulu. (The sword-wielding, shirtless Sulu from the episode Naked Time.)
52. I have very bad eyesight, but can’t get surgery because it doesn’t stop getting worse.
53. I have had surgery on my neck (twice), knees (both of them), tonsils, appendix, and wisdom teeth.
54. I have broken my finger, ankle, wrist, knuckle, and back (stress fracture).
55. I have a love-hate relationship with the freckles on my face.
56. Bacon is my favorite food with tomatoes coming in at a close second. (You can imagine my love for BLTs.)
57. I love to paint, but only when inspiration strikes.
58. I can wiggle my ears.
59. I like to eat sushi at the sushi bar.
60. I miss my hometown.
61. I love my Momma.
62. I am a registered democrat and I vote.
63. I listen to both liberal and conservative radio and I think they’re both too one-sided.
64. I’m a Libra and can see myself in all of the descriptions, but I don’t let that define me.
65. I’ve always wanted to have an Irish accent.
66. I love the smell of mint in shower products.
67. I think opossums are one of the cutest animals.
68. I have a sewing machine, but have only sewed two things.
69. I know the words to Ice, Ice Baby.
74. I also know the words to the McDonald’s menu song. Sitting on a beach in a low-riding beach chair with my feet in the surf and a book in my hand is a place I’d pick to be 9 times out of 10.
76. I have slept naked since I was 12 years old. I don’t do it (or at least didn’t start it) to be sexy; it’s just more comfortable.
77. I love emoticons. :) I know people hate them, but trying to get your feelings across in a 21st century world is difficult, and they make that process easier.
78. Skipping is an amazing way to get from point A to point B, and I try to do it as often as possible.
79. I love to cook with my husband.
80. I lose my patience very easily.
81. One of my best friends is my high school chemistry teacher. Hi Mr. Allen!
82. One of my dreams is to raise a family just like his. (see above person)
83. I placed 3rd in the state track championships in high school for long jump.
84. My hair hasn’t been its natural color in 10 years.
85. I love looking at pictures of myself. (Sounds vain, I know, I believe everyone does the same thing. And what’s wrong with being happy with the way you look?)
86. That being said, I think I can look beautiful in one picture, yet mind-blowingly fugly in another. (Yet I stare at both renditions for equal amounts of time.)
87. I didn’t, um, blossom until I was well into college.
88. I am terrified of flying and hate to do it. I hate it even more when someone I love is flying and I’m not with them. (see #9)
89. My favorite album of all time is Chicago 17.
90. My favorite current band is GrooveLily.
91. Degrading women aside, I think Howard Stern is irreverent and hysterically funny.
92. I consider myself to be a feminist.
93. I am full of contradictions. (See being a Libra, #64)
94. I still hold 3 of my high school track records.
95. When Buffy made a musical episode, I taped it, natch, then transferred the whole episode onto a CD (thanks Brent Kelchner!) and listened to it just about everyday for a long, long while.
96. Despite always wanting to write a book, I think I am a horrible writer.
97. I long to be able to speak Spanish fluently.
98. Despite marrying a gorgeous man, my type is usually dork meets geek.
99. I know the dagger speech from Mac Beth.
100. I love to nap.
101. I love using keystrokes for neat commands (double underline is ctrl+shift+d) when using MSword.
102. My dream job has always been to be an astronaut.
103. My favorite book of all time is Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley.
104. I really enjoy the musical group Tower of Power. (My seemingly inherent love of jazz comes from my step-dad playing it ad infinitum while I was growing up.)
105. I have two brothers and a sister.
106. I am named after my dad. So is my brother. And my sister. :)
107. I'm a mommy to a beautiful little girl.
